Le Confident

Ideas tête-à-tête

Cage bird

Because I waited there many times,

Because here everything began,

Because I cried there every time,

Because here I feel me flying,

Because here I feel me falling,

Because I am just a bird on the poet shoulder,

Because I am just a bird in a loving cage.

Those verse are a tribute to the airport Saint-Exupéry of Lyon (former Satolas airport). This multimodal station was designed by Santiago Calatrava, a spanish architect of international renowned born in 1951.

He was selected to design the TGV Saint-Exupéry station (20 kilometers away of Lyon). The demands were that this station must a tribute to the french speed railway : the TGV

This building of concrete and steel had to bring to mind the effect of speed (designe like the front of the TGV, slender), as well as the link with the airport (like a wing). It was unveiled the 28 june 1994.

This architecture is a symbol and also the Monnaie de Paris has made, this year, a collection of coins about french stations : 10, 20 and 50 euros (silver) and 50 euros (gold). The Lyon Saint-Exupéry station is one of them.

For me this architecture is a success. It expresses the speed and fly. A great combination. But it is also a personal symbol. When I see this building, it resonates in my heart as reunion as well as separation. Here is for me the borderline. Come and go. Never forget to come back.
